Museum des Kapitalismus

The Museum des Kapitalismus stands in Berlin’s Kreuzberg district on Köpenicker Straße. It is a small exhibition space dedicated to exploring the workings and effects of capitalism. The museum opened its first show in June 2014, followed by a second exhibition in 2015. In 2017 it appeared briefly in Hamburg-St. Pauli. It is organised by the association Bildung und Partizipation e.V., supported by Berlin’s political education body. Its five rooms examine needs, exclusion, crisis, colonialism and possible futures beyond capitalism. The displays aim to make complex ideas clear through interactive exhibits. The organisers want the space to be open and accessible to all visitors. They encourage participation and discussion around the themes presented. The museum avoids academic jargon in favour of straightforward explanations. Visitors find a compact but thoughtful set of rooms arranged along a single route. Panels and objects illustrate how capitalism shapes daily life and global relations. One exhibition looked at the idea of expropriation and the language used to describe it. The atmosphere is informal, allowing people to pause and reflect on what they see. The space feels like a workshop for ideas rather than a traditional museum.
