Schloss Siedlinghausen

Schloss Siedlinghausen is a former hunting lodge standing three kilometres from the village centre, at the foot of the Steinberg hill on the L 742 road between Siedlinghausen and Rehsiepen. The Neger river flows nearby and to the west of the road lies the Neger- and Birautal nature reserve. The site first appears in a 14th-century register of the Stift Meschede. The estate passed through several noble families after its first mention in 1314. The von Gaugreben family built a new house on the Wolfhagen in the late 14th century, and in the 17th century it went to the Vogt von Elspe. From 1750 to 1810 the von Vincke family owned the property before Freiherr Friedrich Leopold von Fürstenberg bought it and demolished the old buildings. In 1858 he received permission to build the present hunting lodge. Visitors today stay in holiday flats run by a hotel company under the name Jagdschloss Siedlinghausen. The lodge’s façade was simplified in 1966 to give it a more modern look. The surrounding countryside offers quiet walks beside the Neger and into the protected valley landscape.
