Deutsches Schützenmuseum

The German Shooting Museum sits in Schloss Callenberg, a castle in the Coburg district of Beiersdorf in Upper Franconia. The building itself is a 19th-century residence with a park and a small lake. The museum traces the history of German shooting associations from their early days to the present. The collection includes trophies, weapons and documents from shooting festivals across Germany. It is run by the German Shooting Federation, which opened the museum in 2004 with Andreas von Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha and Josef Ambacher. Before this, a smaller museum in Nuremberg held similar exhibits from 1907 until 1938, when it was closed and its holdings were moved for safekeeping. Visitors walk through rooms arranged by period, each showing how shooting clubs organised themselves and what they celebrated. The displays include medals, target rifles and photographs of famous competitions. Outside, the castle grounds offer quiet paths along the water and through the park. The setting gives a sense of how shooting traditions once shaped local life.
