Lake Lans

The Lanser See is a small lake for bathing near the village of Lans, high above the southern outskirts of Innsbruck. It sits on the southern highlands, a short tram ride from the city centre on Streetcar Line 6. The lake is surrounded by green meadows and light woodland, giving it a quiet, rural feel despite its proximity to the city. In winter the water freezes and becomes a popular spot for ice-skating when conditions allow. The lake belongs to Innsbruck’s municipal boundary, yet it feels far removed from urban life. Its water comes from a fen, which keeps the lake clean and clear for most of the year. During the height of summer the quality can drop slightly because of heavy use by swimmers and sunbathers. Despite this, the lake remains one of the cleanest bathing spots around Innsbruck. Local families and visitors alike come for the clean water and the peaceful setting. The fen also supports a variety of wetland plants along the shore. Visitors find a simple beach with grassy banks and a small jetty for swimming. A path circles the lake, shaded in parts by alders and willows, making it pleasant for a gentle walk. In summer deck chairs and umbrellas appear, while in winter skaters take over the frozen surface. The surrounding farmland and distant Alpine peaks add to the calm atmosphere. It is a place where people come to relax, swim or skate, close to the city but far from its noise.
