Stadtpfarrkirche Mariae Heimsuchung

The Roman Catholic parish church of Dornbirn-Haselstauden stands in the Haselstauden district of Dornbirn in Vorarlberg. It is dedicated to the Visitation of Mary and belongs to the Dornbirn deanery in the Feldkirch diocese. The building is protected as a monument and is the oldest church in Dornbirn. The feast day is celebrated on 2 July. The church is a free-standing classical stone structure that dominates the centre of Haselstauden. Its choir faces south-east, and a single tower is attached to the north-east of the nave. The church grew from a wayside shrine to a chapel in 1792–93, designed by the Bildstein Baroque master Johann Michael Beer and built by Dornbirn’s Siegmund Hilbe. Inside, the late-18th-century font likely came from an earlier chapel. The high altar and two side altars date from 1793, the carved main door from 1816, and the pulpit from about 1820. Alois Keller’s frescoes of 1828, restored in 1896–98, cover the nave and include the Ascension of Christ and the Visitation of Mary. The choir’s floor pattern differs from the nave’s, and a simple modern altar was added in 2006.
