Schloss Tagmersheim

Schloss Tagmersheim stands in the village of Tagmersheim in the Donau-Ries district of Bavaria. Built as a Renaissance-style administrator’s house in the 16th century, it once served as the centre of a closed Hofmark estate. Several protected outbuildings still shape the village core around it. The castle’s history reaches back to the 11th century, when local nobles first appear in monastic charters. After the Otting knights died out in 1578, Wolf Lorenz Wallrab von Hautzendorf erected the present structure. Later owners included the Pestalozza and Wohnlich families, before Alois Graf Arco-Stepperg acquired it in 1842. The Moy family sold the estate in 2007 to Ingo Beyer von Morgenstern, who restored the entire complex; his wife Isabel now runs a polo operation on the grounds. A three-storey building topped with a hipped roof overlooks a three-hectare park. Within the grounds lies a rare sunken garden and Bavaria’s largest linden plateau, where 120 lime trees form a broad terrace. Though the castle itself remains private, the surrounding park and its historic features offer a quiet place to walk among centuries-old trees.
