Windsor Park

Windsor Park stands in south Belfast as the national football stadium of Northern Ireland. The ground belongs to Linfield Football Club, which has owned the land since the stadium opened in 1905. The Irish Football Association runs the ground and pays Linfield an annual rent on behalf of the Northern Ireland team. Irish Cup finals are usually played here. The name comes from the district where the stadium sits. The stadium has grown through major rebuilding programmes. In the 1930s Archibald Leitch designed the Grandstand and terraces that once held 60,000 spectators. Later the Spion Kop terrace gave way to a 5,000-seat Kop Stand, and the North Stand added another 7,000 seats. Linfield’s average home league crowd in 2023–24 was 3,126, while Northern Ireland’s national team averaged 17,504 in 2023. The ground has staged European Under-19 finals and the 2021 UEFA Super Cup. Visitors find a modern bowl with two new stands flanking the Kop and North Stands. The Railway Stand and South Stand have been rebuilt to enclose the pitch. Inside there are conference rooms and offices for the Irish Football Association. Outside, the stadium sits among residential streets in south Belfast, a short walk from Windsor Railway Station.
