Cultural heritage D-1-7734-0141 in Dachau

Schloss Udlding was a Hofmarkschloss in Udlding, a village within Dachau. The site appears on the Bayernatlas as a protected archaeological monument. It once stood as a small late-medieval and early-modern manor house with an attached farmyard. The building was recorded in Michael Wening’s 18th-century atlas of Upper and Lower Bavaria. After 1805 the castle was demolished and only traces remain beneath the surface. The structure began as a single-storey building under a pitched roof. An oriel window projected from one wall and a long side wing stretched out behind. Among its owners were the Dachauer von Lauterbach family and Ulrich von Kammerberg, who held it until 1691. From 1691 to 1778 the electors of Bavaria owned the property. Later owners included Kammerrat Danzer, Gräfin Elisabeth von Bettschard, and again the electors until the castle was taken down around 1805. Today the field shows no visible remains, yet excavations have uncovered foundations and artefacts. Visitors can walk across the gentle slope where the house once stood. A low hedge now marks the outline of the vanished building. The quiet surroundings give little hint of the former manor, yet the site is recognised as an important archaeological record of local history.
