Pfarrkirche Heilig Kreuz

The Catholic parish church of the Holy Cross stands on the raised southern edge of Going village in the Wilden Kaiser district of Kitzbühel, Tirol. The church and its surrounding cemetery are protected as historic monuments. A church is recorded here from 1390, and in 1891 it became the parish church. The present baroque building was designed by Andreas Hueber and completed in 1775. The central square room is flanked by narrow transverse sections for the porch and choir, with a round-ended choir facing south. A three-storey tower with round-headed sound openings and a bulbous dome rises at the east side of the choir. Inside, a flat dome on angled corner piers and pilasters encloses richly decorated windows and a marble-columned gallery. The church’s interior decoration includes ceiling paintings by Matthias Kirchner showing the Last Judgement in the choir and the Crucifixion with legends of the True Cross in the dome. The high altar, dating from 1775–1780, features a 1700 Crucifixion by Ignaz Faistenberger and statues of local saints. The left altar holds a late Gothic Madonna later reshaped in baroque style, while the right altar displays statues of Saint Lawrence with companions. Outside, the cemetery contains a small chapel built in the early 19th century with painted wooden doors dated 1826.
