Gasthaus, Schweizerhof

The Schweizerhof stands in the centre of Bad Hofgastein, a market town in the Salzburger Land. Built in the 16th century, it is a two-storey building with a pitched roof. Over the centuries it has carried names such as Walcherhaus, Stiglhaus and Kendler, reflecting the families who owned it. It first housed a guesthouse in 1625 when Caspar Reundl and Eustach Reinpacher ran the inn. The present owners, Laurintz Hueber and his wife Apollonia, appear in records from the 1530s. In 1820 Josef Trigler took possession, and in 1938 K. Maria Kendler added the cellar. Visitors find a simple two-storey structure with a gabled roof. The rear wing was added later, giving the house its present shape. Inside, the original layout of guest rooms remains largely intact. The building’s long history is still visible in its walls and beams.
