Pfarrkirche Leoben-Hinterberg

The Pfarrkirche Leoben-Hinterberg is a modern Roman Catholic parish church in the Steiermark town of Leoben. It stands under the patronage of the holy guardian angel and belongs to the Leoben deanery in the Graz-Seckau diocese. The church shares Denkmalschutz status with the adjacent presbytery, both listed together. Built in 1967 to designs by architect Ferdinand Schuster, the church and its parish hall were completed four years later. The Dehio volume of 1982 records the building among the recognised monuments of the region. Its clean lines and careful proportions reflect Schuster’s mid-20th-century approach. Inside, the single nave opens to a plain, well-lit space focused on the altar. The walls are faced with light-coloured stone, and the roof rises to a high, unadorned ceiling. The stained-glass windows cast shifting colours across the floor. Outside, the low, rectangular volumes sit quietly among surrounding houses, their modest scale blending with the neighbourhood.
