Westfälisches Landestheater
The Westfälisches Landestheater is a professional theatre in Castrop-Rauxel, a town in the Ruhr area. It belongs to a group of four state theatres in North Rhine-Westphalia. All new productions first appear on its stage in Europaplatz. In the 2017–18 season it gave more than 360 performances to about 85,000 visitors. Each year it introduces up to fifteen new shows. The theatre’s programme ranges from classics to contemporary plays. It also stages musicals, dance pieces and children’s theatre. Touring productions take its work to towns across the region. The building itself sits in the heart of Castrop-Rauxel’s Europaplatz. Visitors find a modern auditorium designed for good sight-lines and sound. The foyer hosts small exhibitions and pre-show talks. Nearby cafés and shops make it easy to spend an evening in the town centre. The theatre’s regular schedule keeps several performances on offer each week.
