Pfarrkirche Lang

The parish church of Lang stands in the village of Lang in the Leibnitz district of Styria. It belongs to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Graz-Seckau and is dedicated to St Matthew. The church is protected as a listed monument. The present building dates from around 1700, though records mention a church here as early as 1219. The tower carries a pointed spire and the interior has a long five-bay nave ending in a semi-circular apse. Double pilasters support cross-ribbed vaults on double ribs, and side chapels give the nave a cross-shaped plan. A three-bay west gallery is covered by a long barrel vault. The high altar was made after the mid-18th century, while the side-altars were installed in the early 1700s. One side-altar shows an image of Our Lady of Victory. A late Roman carved stone showing a couple is built into the southern stair of the gallery. A bell cast in 1744 bears the founder’s name, Mathäus Köstenbauer.
