Greim

Greim is a mountain in the Wölzer Tauern range, part of the Niedere Tauern in Styria, Austria. It stands at 2,474 metres, making it the second highest peak in the Wölzer Tauern after Rettelkirchspitze. The mountain’s southern slopes offer the easiest route to the summit, marked by a well-defined trail. Walkers begin their ascent from Greimhütte, a mountain hut at 1,680 metres. The hut itself is reached by car from the village of Sankt Peter am Kammersberg. The climb from Greimhütte to the top takes about two hours for most walkers. The route is straightforward and does not require technical climbing skills. The trail winds through alpine meadows and rocky sections before reaching the summit ridge. Views from the top stretch across the Wölzer Tauern and beyond on clear days. The mountain’s isolation and height give it a quiet, wild feel. At the summit, a metal cross marks the highest point, and a visitors’ book records the names of those who have reached it. The ridge offers space to sit and enjoy the panorama of surrounding peaks. In good weather, the view includes the Dachstein massif to the north and the Hohe Tauern to the west. The descent follows the same path, returning to Greimhütte for refreshments.
