Pfarrkirche Hinterbrühl
The parish church of Hinterbrühl stands in the village of Hinterbrühl in the Mödling district of Lower Austria. It is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and belongs to the Mödling deanery in the vicariate of the Archdiocese of Vienna. The building has been under monument protection since the 19th century. The church’s history begins with a small wooden chapel built in the early 18th century. In 1830 the old structure was removed except for the tower and high altar. Prince Johann I of Liechtenstein commissioned a new Neoclassical church with twin towers, completed in 1834 to plans by Franz Honnegger. The organ, built in 1962 by Walcker-Mayer, sits inside a case made in 1908 by Josef Ullmann. Visitors enter through the twin-towered façade and find a single-nave interior with side chapels. The 1834 high altar and the preserved medieval tower remain from earlier phases. The organ case from 1908 and the 1962 instrument stand at the rear. The church’s whitewashed walls and classical detailing give the space a calm, orderly atmosphere.
