Schloss Auhof

Schloss Auhof stands in the village of Auhof, part of Pupping in Upper Austria. The building was constructed between 1899 and 1902 for Ottokar Saradnik by the architect L. R. Becker. After Saradnik’s death in 1935 the estate passed to his son and later to Karoline Greiter in 1939. The two-storey house resembles an English manor and sits within a walled landscape garden. A group of outbuildings surrounds the main house, adding to the estate’s scale. The park contains statues and fountains, including a terracotta figure of a dolphin entwined around a female form. This piece was meant for a water feature that was never built and now decorates a terrace. The garden walls enclose lawns, mature trees and gravel paths laid out in broad sweeps. The entire property remains in private hands and is not open to the public. Visitors cannot enter the buildings or walk the garden paths. The outside walls and gates still mark the boundary of the estate. From the road the red-brick manor and its slate roofs are clearly visible above clipped hedges. The surrounding farmland and distant views of the Danube valley complete the scene.
