Schloss Allmannshausen

Schloss Allmannshausen stands beside the Starnberger See in the small village of Allmannshausen, separated from the water only by a road. Built originally in 1517 as a wooden manor house, it became a three-storey stone residence in 1696 under Caspar Feichtmayr the Elder. The Hörwarth family owned it for two centuries before passing it to the Rambaldis, then to the Boehringer family, and later to the Nagels. Since 1948 the Free State of Bavaria has held the property, leasing it to the Christian youth organisation Wort des Lebens. The building shows layers of history in its architecture. The 17th-century façade follows Italian Renaissance style, complete with a portico and belvedere. In 1881 a fourth storey was added, topped with a hipped roof and a low wing. Inside, the practical furnishings contrast with the elaborate exterior. Around the castle spreads a landscaped park with a villa garden and a small bathhouse, all protected as monuments. Visitors walk past the main building to explore the landscaped grounds. The park includes winding paths, mature trees and open lawns that lead to the nearby neuromanische Schloss Seeburg. The setting offers views across the lake and a quiet atmosphere away from the main roads.
