All Saints Church, Allerheiligen im Mürztal

The parish church of All Saints in the Mürztal valley stands in the village of Allerheiligen in the municipality of Kindberg. It is a late-Gothic hall church surrounded by a walled cemetery with four Baroque side chapels. The building has steeply stepped buttresses along nave and choir, and the two western buttresses at the nave corners project diagonally. The church became an independent parish in 1762 after centuries as a chapel dependent on nearby St Lorenzen. Inside, the three-bay choir dates from the mid-15th century and ends in a five-sided apse with ribbed vaulting. The nave was rebuilt in 1467 and widened into a two-aisled hall with two central round piers. Master Christoph Marl of Rottenmann added a third aisle and a star-ribbed vault painted with foliage and an angel at the Holy Spirit opening, uncovered in 1955. A four-storey west tower with a sloping roof rises above the main entrance. The tower chamber has a star-ribbed vault bearing heraldic shields dated 1499, and an octagonal stair turret is tucked into the northern corner. The Gothic sacristy to the north has a simple ribbed vault and an iron-bound door, while a modern sacristy extension lies to the south. The organ, installed in 2006, has seventeen stops by Christian Erler.
