Pfarrkirche Steinabrückl

The Catholic parish church of the Immaculate Conception stands on rising ground at the northern edge of Steinabrückl, a village in the municipality of Wöllersdorf-Steinabrückl. The late-classicist building was raised between 1823 and 1830 by master builder Johann Nothaft and consecrated in 1832. A small ridge turret rises above the plain façade, and the church keeps its original clockwork inside the turret. Inside, a central dome on deep round-arched window niches spans the nave, while two transverse barrel vaults lead to the porch and the choir. The four Evangelists appear in the vaulted spandrels, painted around the time the church was finished. The altar backboard, showing the Immaculate Conception, dates from about 1830–40, and the organ with ten stops was built by Stephan Hechinger in 1832. The churchyard, opened in 1886, lies east of the building beside a two-storey sacristy wing. The rectangular nave under a hipped roof keeps its restrained classical proportions, while the gently recessed choir ends in a round-headed arch. The whole structure remains under Denkmalschutz, recognised for its clear late-classicist lines and well-preserved interior.
