Stubaier Wildspitze

The Stubaier Wildspitze is a 3,341-metre mountain in the Stubai Alps of Tyrol. Two glaciers, the Schaufelferner and the Daunkogelferner, lie northeast of its summit. These glaciers feed the Stubai Glacier ski region below. The mountain’s slopes rise above valleys that hold scattered alpine huts and waymarked paths. The first recorded tourist ascent took place in 1882. Three climbers—E. v. Fuchs, M. Egger and Josef Pfurtscheller—reached the top that year. Their achievement opened the way for later visitors seeking the high alpine view. The mountain’s height and glaciers make it a landmark of the Stubai range. A visitor finds a broad summit plateau with panoramic views across the Alps. The glaciers below show crevasses and icefalls typical of high-altitude ice. Nearby peaks such as the Habicht and the Wilde Leck stand in clear sight. In summer, marked trails lead from the valley stations up to the glacier’s edge. The surrounding landscape offers steep rock faces and wide snowfields year-round.
