Törlspitze
The Törlspitze is a 3 052-metre peak in the Venedigergruppe range of the Hohe Tauern in East Tyrol. It stands on the Umbalkamm ridge, where the municipal boundary between St Jakob in Defereggen and Prägraten am Großvenediger cuts across the summit plateau. The first crossing of the summit was made in 1894 by J Erlsbacher and V Ladstätter, though the original first ascent remains unknown. The mountain’s isolation and limited climbing routes make it a quiet goal for experienced hikers. Routes start from the Oberhausalm alpine pasture and follow the Schwarzachtal valley to the Törlbach stream, where an old trail leads to the Törler Kreuz and the Törlschartl col at 3 004 metres. From there the South-East ridge offers straightforward scrambling to the top, passing the 3 010-metre Törlkopf on the way. East of the summit the ground falls steeply towards the Karbach stream, which drains into the Daberbach in the Dabertal valley. The western side drops into the Schwarzachtal, giving the peak a dramatic profile on both flanks. Those who choose the route from the Neue Reichenberger Hütte leave the path to the Rotenmanntörl and strike north across the flank to reach the Schwarze Törl notch before ascending the final ridge.
