Wallfahrtskapelle Mariä Heimsuchung

The Jochbergwald pilgrimage chapel stands beside the Pass-Thurn road in the Jochberg forest, a quiet wooded valley in the Kitzbühel district of Tirol. Built in 1841–42 by Josef Schweinester, it replaced a small chapel founded in 1673. The building has been protected as a historic monument since the 20th century. Its architecture combines classical and Tyrolean elements. The three-bay nave ends in a rounded apse under a shingled roof, and a slender north tower rises beside the entrance. Round-arched windows sit between flat pilasters and a triglyph frieze, while the gable carries the date 1842. Inside, the barrel-vaulted ceiling is divided by ribs and adorned with delicate Biedermeier stucco. Anton Leitl painted scenes of the Annunciation, Visitation and Coronation of Mary on the ceiling. Visitors step into a small, well-lit interior where a classical altar holds a copy of a Saxon image of the Virgin. The wrought-iron chancel screen and a single bell from 1842 complete the furnishings. The forest setting keeps the chapel peaceful, reached by a short path from the road.
