Schloss Wolfach stands in the town of Wolfach in the Black Forest, built by the Fürstenberg family on the site of an earlier castle. The present building replaced a smaller structure from the time of Count Heinrich VI of Fürstenberg, who died in 1490. Count Wolfgang of Fürstenberg ruled Wolfach during its construction. The castle suffered damage during the Thirty Years’ War from troop billeting.

In 1671 the Fürstenbergs enlarged the castle under the direction of master stonemason Hans Georg Brachet and carpenter Hans Jakob Glöckler. The planned grand banqueting hall was never completed. By 1806 the building housed the district office, and today it contains the tax office, local court, forestry administration and a police post.

A fire in 1947 destroyed the northern wing and many artworks, including the carved ceiling of the Schöffensaal. The wing was rebuilt in modern style. The castle now holds the Wolfach town museum and the preserved Schlosskapelle.
