Tobadill Church

The Magnuskirche stands in the small village of Tobadill in the Austrian Alps. Built in the 18th century, it replaced an earlier chapel from 1705. The present church was designed by Kassian Grießer and completed between 1735 and 1737. The tower was added in 1768, and further expansions followed in 1792. Inside, the ceiling painting by Johann Georg Witwer depicts scenes from the life of St Magnus. The church is dedicated to Magnus of Füssen, a missionary who lived in the 8th century. The interior artwork includes three main frescoes in the nave and choir, along with representations of the four evangelists in the side chapels. The structure reflects the Baroque style popular in the region during the 18th century. Its location in the Weiler Feld area makes it a landmark in the valley. Visitors find a single-nave church with a richly decorated interior. The ceiling paintings dominate the space, drawing attention to the story of St Magnus. The side chapels add to the visual depth of the church. Outside, the tower rises above the surrounding buildings, marking the church’s presence in the village. The setting combines alpine scenery with historical architecture.
