Motorradmuseum Ibbenbüren

The Motorradmuseum Ibbenbüren stands in a former village schoolhouse in Ibbenbüren-Lehen, a town in North Rhine-Westphalia. Founded in 1978 by Robert Stockmann, it remains under his care today. More than 170 motorcycles fill its rooms, ranging from 1950s mopeds like the NSU Quickly to the massive Münch Mammut 1200 TTS. The collection highlights early motorcycles, pre-war machines from makers such as Mars, Diehl and Wanderer, and German postwar classics from Adler, BMW, DKW, Hercules and others. Each display includes boards with years of manufacture, technical details and special features. Visitors also find period documents, spare parts, engines, badges and clothing that bring the era to life. A cutaway model of a 1900cc Yamaha engine shows how the machinery works inside. Every year at Whitsun the museum hosts Europe’s largest veteran motorcycle meeting, drawing riders from across the continent. The building itself, once a school, adds to the sense of stepping into a simpler time when motorcycles were changing everyday life.
