Schloss Prankerhof

Schloss Prankerhof, also known as Adelsbühel, was a Grazer castle whose history began at the close of the 16th century. It stood in the fifth district of Graz, Gries, on Prankergasse, with fields and meadows stretching towards Steinfeldgasse and Lazarettgasse. The estate was first built as an Edelhof by Hans Harrer and his wife Barbara after they acquired the land in 1590. The name Adelsbühel reflected its noble status. The castle changed hands many times through inheritance, debt, and legal disputes. Anna Ruep von Pfeilberg bought it in 1610, but her sons lost it to creditors in 1616. Heinrich Freiherr von Logau gained the property in 1617, though his Protestant family had to leave the region in 1629. The estate passed to Hans Friedrich Freiherr von Pranckh, whose wife later repurchased it in 1640 after prolonged court battles. By the late 18th century the Pranckh family lost control under forced administration. Franz Xaver Feldbacher took over in 1784, followed by Alois Graf Trautmannsdorf in 1792. After 1798 the castle saw rapid ownership changes before being demolished. Today the site holds apartment buildings, and only the name Prankergasse recalls the vanished Schloss Prankerhof.
