Mary Magdalene Church

The Filialkirche Neufahrn is a small late-Gothic Catholic church on the northern edge of Neufahrn village, itself part of Neumarkt am Wallersee near Salzburg. It belongs to the parish of Neumarkt and sits under the Köstendorf deanery in the Archdiocese of Salzburg. The building has been officially listed as a protected monument since the 20th century. The church first appears in records from 1336, and its interior was remodelled in the 18th century after the original Gothic ribbed vaults were removed. The main altar dates from 1645 and features a painting of the Annunciation flanked by statues of John the Baptist and Francis of Assisi. A side altar from 1731, carved by Veit Mödlhammer, shows God the Father and the weather saints John and Paul. Inside, the nave has two bays leading to a single-bay choir with a five-sided end. Pilasters and round-arched windows divide the walls, while the west gallery is made of wood from the late 17th century. Outside, a Baroque wooden bell tower with an onion dome rises above the roof, and a small wooden porch shelters the late-Gothic pointed door. The sacristy, added later, has a cross-ribbed vault.
