Misthaufen
The Misthaufen is a 2435-metre peak in the Lechquellen range, standing on the Gemeindegebiet of Sonntag in Vorarlberg. It lies north of the Rote Wand and forms part of a ridge that includes the Bettlerspitze, Klesenzahörner and Gadnerköpfe before reaching the higher Hirschenspitze. The mountain’s name comes from the traditional farmyard dung-heap, built in neat cubes and once a farmer’s pride. Climbers reach it by two long routes from Bad Rotenbrunnen, each taking about five hours. One follows the Diesnergschröf, the other the Gadnergschröf, both becoming pathless near the summit. The final climb on the Diesnergschröf route is graded I+ UIAA, while the Gadnergschröf variant is slightly harder at grade II. Visitors who make the ascent find a summit shaped like a farm dung-heap, with views across the Lechquellengebirge. The ridge walk offers glimpses of the Bettlerspitze and Klesenzahörner on the way up. From the top, the Gadnergschröf and Rote Wand stand out to the south.
