Bron Felin Motte

Tomen Bronfelin stands near Llandinam in Powys, between Caersŵs and Newtown. It is a medieval motte-and-bailey castle built between 1000 and 1153. The mound and its surrounding enclosure form one of the largest clusters of such sites in Britain. Cadw recognises the site as Scheduled Ancient Monument MG051. Most of these earthworks lie along the Welsh Marches, including parts of Shropshire, Cheshire, Herefordshire, Powys and Flintshire. The border region holds the greatest concentration of motte-and-bailey castles anywhere in the country. Visitors find a grassy mound rising above a flat bailey. The earthworks show the original defensive shape clearly. The site sits in quiet farmland with views across the Severn valley. It offers a quiet place to walk and imagine the castle’s past. The remains are small but well preserved.
