Wilstorf
Wilstorf is a southern district of Hamburg in the Harburg borough. It borders Harburg to the north, Gut Moor to the east, Rönneburg to the south-east, Langenbek to the south, Marmstorf to the south-west and Eißendorf to the west. The Phoenix quarter stretches into Wilstorf’s southern edge, while older residential streets from the early 20th century lie further south. The Harburg city park dominates the centre of the neighbourhood, offering wide lawns and tree-lined paths. The village was first recorded in 1202 when the Archbishop of Bremen granted the Hamburg church dean patronage over Wilstorf’s church. Its name comes from a founder called Wiltehard, the suffix ‘-torf’ meaning a gathering of people. In 1888 Wilstorf was incorporated into Harburg and joined Hamburg in 1937 under the Greater Hamburg Act. Today the area has a higher share of under-18s and foreign residents than the city average, with 18.4 % under 18 and 30.9 % foreign-born. Visitors find a quiet residential quarter with early 20th-century villas along its southern streets. The Harburg city park provides a green heart for walks among mature trees and open meadows. At the northern edge, the Phoenix quarter’s modern blocks mark the district’s southern edge. A school campus opened in 2019, bringing together a primary school and two secondary schools on Hanhoopsfeld.
