Schloss Beesenstedt

Schloss Beesenstedt is a protected building in the village of Beesenstedt, part of Salzatal in the Saalekreis of Saxony-Anhalt. The manor house stands on Schloßstraße and was designed by architects Reinhold Knoch and Friedrich Kallmeyer for Herrmann Nette in 1894. The family Nette lived there until 1947, tracing their ancestry back to the poet Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock. In 1915 a second wing was added by Paul Schultze-Naumburg, and in 1921 the house was looted during the March fights in central Germany led by Max Hoelz. After the Second World War the building served as the seat of the Saxony regional government before becoming a trade-union school with more than a hundred rooms. After German reunification it stood empty until 1996, when it passed into private hands. Today the manor is used for events and as a film set. The band Rammstein rehearsed here in 2008 for their album Liebe ist für alle da, and scenes from the film Honey Baby were shot in its rooms. The façade is richly decorated with projecting bays, balconies and towers, while the original layout of the interior remains intact. Upstairs a grand hall features delicate ceiling stucco and a marble fireplace. The surrounding park adds to the stately atmosphere of this historic residence.
