Schloss Schwöbber
Schloss Schwöbber stands beside the Weser near Hameln, built in the 1570s as a three-winged water castle. It represents one of the finest examples of Weser Renaissance architecture, once celebrated for its extensive gardens. Today the moated manor serves as a luxury five-star hotel. The estate belonged to the Münchhausen family from 1510 until 1920. Hilmar von Münchhausen, a Spanish royal officer, and his sons Statius and Hilmar the Younger led the building works. The garden designed by Otto von Münchhausen in 1750 became one of Europe’s earliest English landscape parks. Peter the Great visited in 1715 to study the rare plant collection. Visitors find the central courtyard framed by the three wings and crossed by a wooden bridge. The restored Teichflügel houses guest rooms with eclectic interiors from the 1920s. Beyond the moat, the park offers wide lawns and mature trees laid out in the English style.
