Pfarrkirche Strem

The parish church in Strem stands in the centre of the village on the southern edge of the old village green. Built in 1852, it replaced a wooden chapel that had served the parish for centuries. The church is dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua and belongs to the larger parish group covering the lower Strem valley.
The church became an independent parish in 1877, taking in three nearby villages as its outlying communities. Three major restorations in the 1950s and 1970s kept the building in good condition. Its classical façade is framed by pilasters and topped by a tall tower with a pointed spire.
Inside, the single-nave space is divided into two bays with ribbed vaulting between sturdy pilasters. A three-bay gallery with a curved front projects into the nave. The chancel arch is rounded, and the apse is covered by a small domed vault. The furnishings date mainly from the mid-19th century, including an altarpiece of Saint Anthony painted in 1853 by J. Rath.
