Pfarrkirche Ramsau, Lower Austria

The parish church of Ramsau in Lower Austria stands in the village of Ramsau, part of the Lilienfeld district. It is a Roman Catholic church dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, built in the Gothic style in the late 14th century. The church and its surrounding cemetery are protected monuments, with a listed entry. The church’s history goes back to 1342, though it was first mentioned in 1162 as a branch of the parish in Hainfeld. The parish itself was established in 1783 and placed under the care of Lilienfeld Abbey. The tower was raised in 1837, 1899 and 1905, while the neogothic additions were designed by architect Dominik Avanzo between 1901 and 1905. The building was restored in 1961, and the interior features frescoes by Sepp Zöchling and Franz Götzer. The church is surrounded by a walled cemetery and has a simple exterior of exposed stonework and pointed windows. Inside, the nave has three bays with ribbed vaulting, while the two-bay choir holds statues of saints under baldachins. The high altar is late Baroque, made of Türnitz marble, and houses a 15th-century wooden figure of the Virgin and Child. The organ, built in 1899 by Max Jakob, was enlarged in 1961 by Gregor Hradetzky.
