Lasserschlössl, Unterach
Schloss Lassereck stands beside the Attersee in the village of Unterach, Oberösterreich. Its origins lie in a medieval fishing seat, where rights were shared among the Habsburgs, Salzburg and Bamberg. The Lasser family acquired the site in 1552 and turned a farm into a small Renaissance castle around 1628. Later owners included the Khevenhüller counts, who united it with their nearby Kogl estate. By 1674 Georg Matthäus Vischer’s engraving shows the four slender turrets and high hipped roof that still define its silhouette. The building’s layered past belongs to regional aristocratic history. After the Lasser line died out, the Khevenhüllers sold and repurchased it in the 17th century. In 1810 the family disposed of all Upper Austrian holdings, and the property passed through several private hands. In 1900 Karl Derfler remodelled it into a private house, and subsequent owners kept it as a residence. Today the little castle remains privately owned and in need of careful restoration. Visitors approach along the lakeside lane in Unterach and see a compact two-storey block crowned by four pointed turrets. The steep roof and small dormers recall the 17th-century engraving, though interiors have been modernised. The setting offers views across the Attersee to the mountains of the Salzkammergut. The building itself is not open to the public, but its lakeside presence and historic silhouette make it a quiet landmark worth noticing.
