Fordham Woods

Fordham Woods is a wet woodland site in Fordham, Cambridgeshire. It covers 10.7 hectares and is managed by the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire. The site features semi-natural alder coppice alongside ash, crack willow and silver birch. Marsh marigold and yellow flag grow among the tall fens on the woodland floor. Access is by a footpath from River Lane. The woods stand on land recognised for its ecological importance. Brackland Rough, the site’s formal name, is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Alder coppice and wetland herbs indicate a habitat that supports specialised wildlife. The Wildlife Trust organises management to maintain the site’s natural character. Its location in Fordham makes it one of the area’s valued green spaces. Visitors find a quiet woodland with shaded paths winding through alder and willow. Marsh marigold brightens damp clearings in spring. Yellow flag appears along wetter sections of the footpath.
