Grießkopf

The Grießkopf is a 2,581-metre-high viewing peak in the Lechtal Alps of Austria’s Tirol. It stands above the Kaiserjochhaus, a mountain refuge built in the 19th century. The route from the valley floor climbs through alpine pastures and rock slabs before reaching the hut. From the Kaiserjochhaus the final ascent takes about forty-five minutes along a marked trail over scree. The summit offers a wide view over the Lechtal and the Allgäu Alps. Climbers can see the Parseierspitze, the highest peak in the Lechtal range. The route is graded as a mountain hike and is recognised as a good introduction to the area. Heinz Groth and Rudolf Wutscher describe the climb in their guidebook to the Lechtal Alps. On the summit visitors find a small cross and a summit register. The surrounding peaks rise to more than 2,800 metres, so the outlook stretches for many kilometres. The Kaiserjochhaus below provides food and shelter for those who arrive early or stay late.
