Pfarrkirche St. Nikolai ob Draßling
St. Nikolai ob Draßling is a Roman Catholic parish church in the village of Sankt Nikolai ob Draßling in the district of Leibnitz, southern Styria. It belongs to the Diocese of Graz-Seckau and stands under Denkmalschutz. The church is dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Myra and is part of the South-West Styria deanery. The church dates back to at least 1419, when it was first mentioned in records. Romanesque building remains were uncovered during a restoration in 1973. The structure was remodelled in the Baroque style in 1772. The parish itself was established in 1857. The church’s architecture combines Romanesque and Baroque elements, including a round-arched frieze and band ornaments reused on the choir and sacristy. Inside, the church has a single-bay nave under a flat longitudinal dome. The organ loft stands on two columns with a slightly projecting balcony. The recessed choir repeats the nave’s form with a rounded apse. The walls feature late-Baroque pilasters at the corners. The high altar, designed by August Ortwein and executed by Jakob Gschiel in 1874, and the organ built by Matthäus Mauracher in 1896, are notable fittings. Outside, a Roman stone with a Mithras head set between two lions is built into the south wall.
