The Höhere Technische Lehranstalt Bregenz stands in the lakeside city of Bregenz in Vorarlberg. Its main building is a four-storey block of red brick with continuous bands of windows and a low flat-roofed corner tower facing Reichsstraße. A small front garden holds a commemorative stone for the Hessen regiment that was stationed here from 1901 to 1908. The school was designed between 1928 and 1937 by Rudolf Melichar, Karl Breuer and Oswald Tauber and is now protected as a historic monument. In the 1990s a modern extension was added by Carlo Baumschlager, Dietmar Eberle and Norbert Schweitzer.

The institute offers higher technical courses that lead to the Austrian Matura. Students can specialise in electrical engineering with renewable energies, robotics, electric mobility or smart systems. The mechanical engineering department provides options in plastics processing, automation and environmental process engineering. A four-year technical school and post-matriculation courses are also available. A research institute on site carries out experiments in mechanical and plastics engineering.

Visitors enter a compact campus of early-20th-century brickwork and later glass-and-steel architecture. The original entrance hall and staircases still show the clean lines of the Melichar, Breuer and Tauber style. The newer wing houses laboratories and workshops where students work on current projects. From the forecourt there are views across the town towards Lake Constance.
