St Mary’s Church stands in Knowsley Village, Merseyside, a Grade II* listed building designed in the Early English style. Built in 1843–44 for the 13th Earl of Derby, it replaced an earlier church on the site. The tower has three stages with a broach spire and lucarnes, while the nave has aisles, a clerestory and a chancel with a five-light east window. Transepts were added in 1860 and a memorial chapel in 1871–72. The churchyard holds war graves from both world wars.

The interior features quatrefoil piers with foliage capitals and a chancel arch carved with Queen Victoria and the Archbishop of Canterbury. The Derby chapel contains an alabaster effigy of the 14th Earl by Matthew Noble. Stained glass includes work by Shrigley and Hunt, Lavers and Barraud, and Powell and Sons. An 1890 octagonal font and a 1913 organ by Rushworth and Dreaper remain in use.

Outside, the sandstone walls and stone-tiled roof frame a quiet churchyard. Inside, the nave’s relief tiles and the chapel’s encaustic tiles add colour. The pulpit dates from about 1946, and the reredos from 1866. Transept windows and the east window cast changing patterns of light across the pews.
