Feuerwehrmuseum Jever

The Feuerwehrmuseum Jever stands in the town of Jever in Lower Saxony. It occupies a former goods shed beside the railway station, where volunteers first set it up. In 2011 the Oldenburg Fire Brigade Association took over its running and added an extension to house the vehicles. The building’s railway setting links the museum to the daily life of the town. The collection shows how fire-fighting has changed over the decades. Old-timers from 1937 to 1971 form the heart of the display. Visitors see helmets, small extinguishers, breathing apparatus, first-aid kits and uniforms in glass cases. Radio and alarm systems from different eras trace the evolution of communication at fires. Inside the extension, fire engines from the mid-20th century stand ready for inspection. Outside, the museum’s forecourt often hosts demonstrations of vintage equipment. The whole site offers a quiet corner where history is kept alive by those who still serve in local brigades.
