Pfarrkirche Am Tabor Leopoldstadt
The Pfarrkirche Am Tabor stands in Vienna’s second district, Leopoldstadt, on Hochstettergasse. It is a Roman Catholic parish church built in the mid-20th century. The site is protected as a listed monument. The church’s history began with a temporary wooden structure in Rueppgasse. Prälat Josef Gorbach and architect Clemens Holzmeister created the first chapel in March 1935. After destruction in 1945, Ladislaus Hruska designed the present building, completed in 1967. The interior features works by Peter Sellemond, Günther Kraus and Georg Zauner. Inside, a tall carved crucifix hangs above the altar. The tabernacle is cut from Krastaler crystal. Reliefs, the Stations of the Cross and the font were carved by Georg Zauner. The organ, built between 1978 and 1980, has 19 stops across two manuals and pedal. Bright murals by Arik Brauer cover the exterior walls.
