Birdworld

Birdworld is the United Kingdom’s largest bird park, spread across 26 acres near Farnham in East Hampshire. It sits close to the village of Bucks Horn Oak and the ancient Alice Holt Forest, surrounded by woodland and open space. The park belongs to Haskins Garden Centre Ltd, which also runs a nearby garden centre and a wholesale plant business. More than 180 bird species live here, with 40 listed as vulnerable or endangered by the IUCN Red List. Among them are the Bali starling, Montserrat oriole and northern bald ibis. The park features one of the country’s largest free-flying parrot aviaries and two penguin colonies. Visitors can see a seashore-themed aviary and the Terry Pratchett Owl Parliament, a Discworld-inspired exhibit paying tribute to the author. A flock of great white pelicans glides overhead, while wild grey herons gather near the penguin pools. Hermann’s tortoises move slowly through their enclosure, adding to the variety of wildlife on display. Paths wind through landscaped gardens and shaded woodland, linking each exhibit. The former Jenny Wren Farm once offered children a chance to meet farm animals, including the rare Whitefaced Woodland sheep. Today, the park remains a place where rare birds and animals share a peaceful setting. Families can watch pelicans feeding or stroll past aviaries filled with colourful species. The mix of conservation, education and open space makes it a worthwhile visit.
