Monte Cabianca

Monte Cabianca is a mountain in the Orobie Alps, standing 2,601 metres high. It lies on the watershed between Val Brembana and Val Seriana, straddling the communes of Carona and Valgoglio in Bergamo province. The summit divides two valleys and offers views across the Bergamasque Prealps. From Carona the route passes the Calvi refuge at 1,990 metres before climbing to the Naso di Cabianca at 2,475 metres. The final ridge leads to the shoulder and then the top. The climb from Valgoglio follows the CAI 268 waymark to the ENEL buildings near the Sucotto dam. Walkers continue to the Lago Nero hut beside the black lake, then to Lago di Aviasco. A short climb after the dam brings the party to the summit in about an hour. An alternative route leaves Aviasco pass, ascends Monte dei Frati and Monte Valrossa, before joining the main ridge to Cabianca’s peak. At the top a broad panorama unfolds over the Orobie chain and the Po plain. The rocky crest is marked by a small summit cross. In clear weather the Adamello-Presanella group appears to the north-west. The descent can retrace the route or branch off towards the Portula pass.
