River Balvag
The River Balvaig is a short river in the Stirling area of Scotland. It runs for about eight kilometres from the head of Loch Voil near Balquhidder. The river passes through the village of Strathyre and flows into the northern end of Loch Lubnaig. Its course is mostly through quiet, rural countryside. The water is clear and moves quickly over rocky sections. Wildlife is plentiful along the riverbanks. Otters are often seen hunting at dawn and dusk. Grey herons stand motionless in the shallows waiting for fish. Red squirrels move through the pine woods that line parts of the river. Anglers come to fish for brown trout and spring salmon. Paths run close to the river in several places. One route follows the east bank from Strathyre towards Loch Lubnaig. Another track climbs gently through woodland above the western shore. The views across the water change with the light, from misty mornings to bright afternoons. The sound of flowing water stays constant along the whole length.
