Archway Theatre

The Archway Theatre is an amateur theatre in Horley, Surrey, beneath the railway arches built in 1909. It is run by the Archway Theatre Company and has a 95-seat main auditorium and a 40-seat studio. The theatre started with just 65 seats in 1909 but expanded in 1989 to its current size. The studio complex, next to Horley station, includes a rehearsal room and a hireable function room. The theatre puts on ten main productions each year, each running for ten performances over two weeks. Recent seasons have featured plays by Shakespeare, Martin McDonagh, Alan Ayckbourn, Alan Bennett and Arthur Miller. It has also staged a collection of ten Noël Coward plays, the first since 1936, in collaboration with other small theatres. Visitors find a compact but lively theatre space under the arches. The main auditorium seats 95, while the studio holds 40 and hosts smaller productions. Rehearsal rooms and a function space are available for hire. The setting beneath the railway arches gives the theatre a distinctive character.
