Gloggnitz Dr.-Karl-Renner-Brücke

The Dr.-Karl-Renner-Brücke spans the Schwarza in Gloggnitz, a town in the Neunkirchen district of Lower Austria. Built in 1927 by architect Anton Potyka, it replaced an earlier wooden footbridge from 1904 called the Karlsteg. The bridge was renamed several times, first as Kanzlerbrücke, then after an SS man during the Nazi era, before becoming the Dr.-Karl-Renner-Brücke in 1945. It was restored in 1995 and remains a protected monument. The bridge is a reinforced concrete structure with a brushed surface and striking lighting masts made of concrete and iron bands. Its design reflects the architectural style of the early 20th century. The bridge once connected the railway station to the district poorhouse, serving a practical purpose in the town.
