Schloss Gleisenau
Schloss Gleisenau stands at the edge of Gleisenau, a village in the Haßberge district of Lower Franconia. The former noble residence once housed a primary school until 2013, while its outbuildings now serve as municipal offices. The site’s history stretches back to the 15th century, when it belonged to the Ebelsbach branch of the von Rotenhan family. The present building was erected in 1772–73 for Otto Philipp Erhart Ernst Groß von Trockau, replacing an earlier water castle from 1548. The new structure blends late Rococo and early Classical styles, with a three-storey main house, mansard roofs, and decorative pilasters. Its west and east entrances feature the Groß von Trockau coat of arms, and a stone bridge crosses the former moat. Visitors find a grand manor with preserved corner bastions and a paved bridge over dry ditches. The symmetrical façade includes projecting middle sections and rusticated ground floors. Nearby, the schlosskirche has a richly decorated front with sculpted capitals, window frames, and a triangular pediment topped by a cross. The church’s roof supports a small hexagonal turret with a curved dome.
