Pfarrkirche Roitham

The parish church of Roitham stands in the village of Roitham on the Traunfall in Upper Austria. A late-Gothic building with a west tower topped by a neo-Gothic spire, it is dedicated to Saint James and protected as a listed monument. The church sits beside the Traunfall, where the river falls over a rocky ledge, giving the place its name. The church first appears in records in 1350, yet its present form dates from the late 15th century. Inside, a single nave with three bays is covered by a net-ribbed vault, while the three-bay choir ends in a five-sided apse with matching vaulting. The west gallery, also vaulted in net ribs, partly hides a baroque porch. The high altar, richly carved in 1723, holds a painting by Carl Strasser from 1720, and the organ of 1991 fits into a historic case. Visitors enter through a late-Gothic south door beneath a vaulted porch. The sacristy door, with its late-Gothic frame, leads into a room vaulted in late-baroque net ribs. The tower’s neo-Gothic spire rises above the village roofs, while below the Traunfall’s water rushes over the rocks. The interior’s whitewashed walls and ribbed vaults create a calm space for quiet reflection.
