Hradisko Monastery
Hradisko Monastery lies on a low rise at the northern edge of Olomouc, close to the Morava river. Founded in the eleventh century, it began as a Benedictine abbey and was later taken over by the Premonstratensians. Its magnificent Baroque appearance earned it the nickname Moravian Escorial. Today the sprawling complex serves as a military hospital, and since nineteen ninety-five it has been listed among the national cultural monuments. Even from a distance, the vast four-winged building with its towers dominates the surrounding plain.
